Have you ever worked out early in the morning only to spend the rest of the day running around in your gear?

Or, started your day by putting on a workout friendly ensemble as extra motivation to ensure you'll keep your mental promise to make that p.m. class?

We'd have to call your bluff if you said no to either ;) Not only is it easy to sport your barre garb for a majority of the day, lately it is a style statement in itself. Athlesiure {a respected retail category now} is one of the fastest growing fashion markets and here on the blog we want to give you an in depth look of what we have to offer in our studios and how you can wear these pieces beyond the barre & bike!

Amber-Style-3_adjOur January "It Girl" Amber looks anything but basic in garments that are making stale gym staples weep. The long sleeve top is.... can't resist. The obvious description: it's bringing sexy back. It shows the perfect amount of toned traps & lats while being a perfect piece in which to stretch and sculpt.

Another super special item at the barre, is the newest and coziest gripper sock. It goes over the knee to really put your personal style over the top, and as you can see, it effortlessly goes from the barre to the boulevard!

Long Sleeve Open Back Top {$44} and Over The Knee Gripper Socks are both available at Local Barre Downtown, Uptown & West locations.

Welcome to our blog! For those who don't know me, I’m Jen DeMarco, the co-founder and CEO of Local Barre--and Wheelhaus! My husband, Joe, and I opened the studio back in 2010 and we’ve taken great pride in watching our dream, sweat, and tears grow into the successful fitness brand that it is today. It will be five {five!} years since we’ve opened our first location and in that time we’ve marked too many accomplishments to name. But let's start with 2014.

Local Barre now employs more than 60 talented women (and men!) in various roles throughout our company. All of our Barretenders complete Director of Fitness Amber Hirsch’s rigorous 55-hour training program before they can pulse and burn with you. We continue to meet monthly to discuss class format, swap sequences, and craft our monthly #WeightedSeries. Stay tuned for Barretender #SignatureCocktails that will be infused in each class in the New Year.

Our retail is expanding! The demand for #LBgear has continued to grow and we simply cannot keep our Coobies and printed leggings in stock. We also retail cycling shoes in addition to the beloved Blake Brodies and grip socks.

We opened our third location in our mile square home town! They say that things that come in threes are inherently funnier, more satisfying, or more effective than other numbers of things. Well. We'd certainly like to think so! We also welcomed our third child, our beautiful daughter Willow! You wouldn't be the first to point out that each time we expand our business, my belly starts expanding too. Spoiler alert! We have vowed not to expand on either front in 2015.

So, where will we focus our attention in 2015? We’ll be dedicating our efforts to spoiling YOU!

Yet another spoiler alert, stay tuned to the blog for my post-pregnancy Wheelhaus experience as well as exciting new improvements to our cycling program! Any Wheelhaus virgins wondering how hard could it possibly be to sit there and pedal for an hour? Umm...if you haven't been, I'd like you to try for yourself before I say too much! :)

Ever wonder about the secret, behind-the-scenes lives of your favorite Barretenders? Find out the full scoop here.

On tap today, our Director of Fitness, Amber Hirsch. If you haven't taken one of her amazing classes, you owe it to your future toned self to get your butt to her Open Barre!

We're so glad you're here. Tell us how you ended up at the barre?

I started taking barre classes after I had my ACL reconstructed to help with my rehabilitation.  At the time I was still dancing professionally so barre classes were a great way regain my strength in a way that was relevant to my dancing. Additionally,  I was already working in the fitness industry as a personal training so the rest is history!

You look amazing, girl. Tell us all of your secrets.

Although I don’t adhere to a strict “diet” I am a big believer in moderation and portion control.  I also try to eat clean, whole foods and minimize anything processed.  A little known fact is that my husband is a pastry chef, so hence the moderation!

OK, we've chartered a plane for you. Where to?

Argentina! My husband is from there, so we go as much as possible.  The wine, the food and the dolce de leche are the absolute best!

One hard and fast rule you live by.

Do not settle. Ever! We all deserve to have the life we want and most importantly to be happy!

What’s on your “get amped” playlist?

Last Nite by The Strokes, Even Flow by Pearl Jam, Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani, She Wants To Move by N.E.R.D.

That song on your iPod you don’t want anyone to know you have.

I’m not going to lie, I love George Michael! I could listen to Faith all day long.

You’re splurging...what’s your weakness?

Unfortunately, for me it’s jewelry.  I’m actually really interested in jewelry design, too. I love collecting pieces that hold some kind of meaning for me. Right now I’m totally lusting after a designer called Mociun. She make the most lovely custom, cluster rings that are perfect for a Mother’s Day present (hint, hint in case my husband sees this, lol).

Tell us a secret.

I am the only redhead in my entire family.  Everyone thinks I was named Amber because of my hair color and the truth is, I kind of was. Although no one else had red hair, my mother had a “feeling” I would be a ginger, and boy was she right!

One thing on your bucket list.

To drive again, I haven’t done it since 1998.  Also, to really learn Spanish.

High school: love or hate?

Loved it, but couldn’t wait to graduate so I could move to ANY big city and get the heck out of the small town I grew up in.

Celeb dinner party, who’s on the invite list?

Martha Graham, Gwen Stefani, Julianne Moore, Eddie Vedder, Johnny Depp, Tosh .0, Tina Fey, Anderson Cooper.  That should make for a pretty well-rounded, eclectic group!
