From the Barre to the Boulevard: Jessica Edition

Jessica_Gear_1_adj_WEB

If you're looking for some mid-summer night's motivation, July's It Girl Jessica, is serving it straight up. Toned beyond words, her body hits the barre hard and it shows. So when you work out hard you need to play hard in the world of style. This is where some show-stopping beachwear has a moment. A white bathing suit from, wait for it, Target! This piece looks exquisite against the golden tones of her skin. Yet, the real gold tones come from the add ons. Taking a bikini and elevating to "a-look" are, a gorgeous sarong with sequin embellishment and gilded jewelry from local treasure chest Aaraa Accessories. This is a perfect ensemble for hanging at a beach bar or attending a pool party where dressed can meet undressed when the heat is on. Some like it hot and this look is scalding.

All that glute work in class is good for something when it comes time to showstop in shorts! A printed pair plus a textured top are the recipe for a heatwave. If you're ready to show the core, in an non-Britney circa 99 way, wearing a bandeau under a sheer piece like this is the perfect peek!

Derrière Diary: Tiffany Edition Week 6

15LBW18_DerriereDiary_Header

Every day we witness the incredible transformations our clients go through. These untold stories continually inspire us to keep doing what we love. We realized, if these stories inspired us then imagine what it would do for our community!

So we started the Derriére Diary, a series of stories that aim to motivate those looking to reach their own goals and challenges. The same ones our clients go through every day.

But to start off we needed a strong voice. A fixture in our local community who’s brave enough to put their goals and progress on display in real time, for the world to see. So we invited the beautiful Tiffany Pinero to share her fitness journey.

Read about her first week here.

Week 6: July 20th - 26th

15LBW18_DerriereDiary_BlogStats_WK6_copy

Well, this was the week I was working for! It was finally shoot time for my book and I felt ready as I had mentioned in last week’s entry. I got right back into tone mode on Wednesday by taking Donielle’s barre class and the thoughts going through my head were, “ring the alarm there’s a fire in my thighs!!!” “Is it possible for my glutes to pop right off my body from holding a pose for so long?”

Needless to say after weeks of taking barre and booty camp, the challenge is still there. I love that even though I am getting stronger, class is not repetitive and I am really begging for mercy by the end of each class. All the merciless moves have taken a positive toll.

When I measured myself I couldn’t believe my thighs were down 2 inches! I noticed, when wearing a romper this weekend, that my thighs seemed to be a little more sculpted but the measuring tape was the truth teller. I was mostly surprised because I had done fine with my eating during the week, but nothing spectacular. Had a glass of wine here and there and indulged in some tequila (hello! #nationaltequiladay) but overall I wasn’t being obsessive. These results though have made me really think about any splurges (post-drinking pizza…!). I used to constantly make the excuse that I deserved to indulge and guess what? Indulgence ended being a daily thing because when in doubt you can always say YOLO. Ah!

Knowing how hard I’ve been working at the barre and in class makes me have that extra glass of lemon water Tamara recommends before giving into temptation.

MONDAY - Cardio on my own (Photo Shoot Day!)

TUESDAY - Rest Day (Photo Shoot Day!)

WEDNESDAY - Barre Class

THURSDAY - Outdoor Booty Camp

FRIDAY - Cardio with a glute series I remembered from barre class!

SATURDAY - Barre Class

SUNDAY - Rest Day

Coming Up

Looking forward to this week and getting in a wheel class!

Week 5: July 13th - 18th

15LBW18_DerriereDiary_BlogStats_WK5

Another busy week came and went and I faced it with enthusiasm. Seeing results will have you feeling that way ya know ;). Two Barre classes + two servings of Robert’s Booty Camp had me feeling amazing. The combination of very targeted workouts and really refining my meals with the help of Tamara is working. I am seeing definition in my stomach and an overall flatter appearance all around. I also am seeing a nice perkiness to my backside. Guess you don’t call it the derriere diaries for nothing!

My book shoot is this week and although that was my main motivation, I am not stopping. My results have motivated me to see what can happen with more time and dedication. Overall I am happy with where I am and confident to do my shoot. I am so obsessed with Booty Camp I shortened our Tuesday shoot in upstate NY so I can get back in time for my evening class with Robert. It’s addicting!

MONDAY - Cardio on my own

WEDNESDAY - Rest Day

THURSDAY - Outdoor Booty Camp

FRIDAY - Robert's Outside Circuit Training

Week 4: July 6th - 12th

15LBW18_DerriereDiary_BlogStats_WK4

FINALLY! This was my week. I had a ton on my plate with two major client photo shoots and packing up our entire lives from the past 5 years as we moved into a bigger apartment. Somehow though, I managed to stay on track with both my food and exercise goals. I didn’t want to make excuses I just wanted to get things done. It was worth it. I measured myself for the first time since we started I discovered: I AM SHRINKING! I am down 1.5” in the waist and half inches have disappeared from my arms and thighs.

Robert’s Outdoor Booty Camp has been an amazing pairing to my barre workouts. I like to mix it up and he has been challenging our group to really take it to the next level.

I wanted to get to more barre classes in this week but I needed all extra hours to pack. So every time I finished packing a box I did a circuit set of Lauren’s take home barre workout!

Having Tamara coach me with food choices is really what helped me have a guiltless week when it came to what I ate. I have a severe sweet tooth. She suggested I bake fruit as a snack. {UMM WHY didn’t I think of this sooner?!} Such a perfect treat and easy to make. Baked apple slices with cinnamon for the win ;)

MONDAY - Cardio on my own

TUESDAY - Outdoor Booty Camp

WEDNESDAY - Lauren’s Take Home Workout

THURSDAY - Outdoor Booty Camp

FRIDAY - Moving Day workout

SATURDAY - Rest Day

SUNDAY - Rest Day

Coming Up

This week ahead is the first week my work and personal schedule is not completely all over the place. I am looking forward to getting in some two-a-days and getting more nutritional advice from Tamara.

July's Local Barre Love Story!

15LBW01_LoveStory_AllisonBleznick_07JUL

Local Barre helped me find the confidence that I had lost after many attempts to tone up. Before I found Local Barre, I had tried Pilates for a year, did independent weight training, and was considering a personal trainer. Through all my attempts, I couldn't achieve the results I was looking for. LB changed that and showed me results in less than a month. The combination of ballet, Pilates, and yoga couldn't be more perfect for me. Now I love to work out and can't wait to go to class. It also helps when I'm greeted by great staff, challenged by amazing instructors, and motivated in an inspiring environment. Thank you for everything!

Week 3: June 29th - July 5th

15LBW18_DerriereDiary_BlogStats_WK3

Oh boy! Last week was hard again with the eating because we were on vacation. I am weak and indulgences were everywhere. I compromised and had two cheat days so that I wasn’t constantly stressed about my food intake.

I also checked in with Tamara and she gave me some good advice on how to curb cravings. She set me up with some amazing and easy recipes to get me on track for the week ahead. {Photos to come!} She harped on me to drink water with lemon first thing in the morning and I found this not only to be great for my body but it also gave me a few minutes to set my intentions for the day. I am enjoying this as a “5 minutes of calm” before the storm.

Working out was my favorite part of the week, it was where I felt in control. Being on a trip where I was in swimwear most of the time made me accountable. Lauren had given me a take home workout that was seriously tough! I had fun doing it on the grass while my dog watched me. I tried to do it with minimal breaks to really challenge myself. There was also a low fence around the yard and I did some glute moves I had learned in Amber’s Open Barre. I used one of my nephew’s toys to replace the purple ball we use in class. Score! ;)

MONDAY - Lauren’s Take Home Workout

TUESDAY - 3.5 mile run

WEDNESDAY - Lauren’s Take Home Workout

THURSDAY - 5 mile run

FRIDAY - Rest Day

SATURDAY - Family Decathlon

SUNDAY - Rest Day

I feel like the week ahead will be my best yet. I am very motivated to see some definition, I can feel it creeping to the surface.

Our July #LBItGirl, Jessica Colberg!

On tap this month is our July #LBItGirl, Jessica!

Jessica-2_adj_WEB

Tell us about any exciting activities you do outside of Barre and Wheel?
On top of working at Local Barre, I'm a company member of Zella Dance and work as a Physical Therapist Aide part-time in my home town Sparta, New Jersey.

Was there an interesting path that led you to teaching at Barre?
Well, Arielle and I are actually best friends from college. After we graduated with a B.F.A. from Rutgers in 2013, she began working here that summer and couldn't stop talking about how fun and intense the work out was. I started calling myself a Barretender a month later!

Jessica-10_adj_WEB_copy

What’s been essential to your success?
Not to get cheesy...but my parents. They're my biggest support. When I was 8 years old, I was given the opportunity to dance on a full scholarship at the School of American Ballet. My dad would have to pull me out of school early so we could drive into the city. That's 3 hours round trip of driving for an hour and a half class, 5 days a week. He never complained once. I remember laughing until my cheeks and belly hurt from all the jokes and games we would play in the car. He would even put my hair in a bun until I got the hang of it and could do it on my own. Yes ladies, Dad's got skills. Haha!

An epic success and/or failure, and how you handled it.
Dance has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. When I go to auditions in the city, I'm faced with rejection constantly. No matter what the obstacle is you're facing in life, don't stop just because someone says no. So before you go home, start building a blanket fort and decide to color all day because you "just can't adult" anymore lol...trust that you've been put on a path to something even better!

Jessica-7_adj_WEB

Your go-to travel spot and why.
San Juan, Puerto Rico! Both my parents are Puerto Rican and my family has a condo over there. The culture is beautiful and the hospitality from everyone on the island is so inviting.

What’s on your “get amped” playlist?
Sweet Escape by Alesso. I'm getting more and more obsessed with EDM.

Jessica-4_adj_WEB

One tip for having the best Barre experience.
Don't compare yourself to your neighbor in class, we're all at different levels! The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.

You’re splurging...what’s your weakness?
Lululemon owns me. So. Much. Black. Spandex.

Your last meal: what’s on the menu?
Steel cut brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal, scrambled eggs with mozzarella, Greek yogurt with frozen berries and honey. I love breakfast foods. A lot.
