January's #LBItGirl Amber

Ever wonder about the secret, behind-the-scenes lives of your favorite Barretenders? Find out the full scoop here.

On tap today, our Director of Fitness, Amber Hirsch. If you haven't taken one of her amazing classes, you owe it to your future toned self to get your butt to her Open Barre!

We're so glad you're here. Tell us how you ended up at the barre?

I started taking barre classes after I had my ACL reconstructed to help with my rehabilitation.  At the time I was still dancing professionally so barre classes were a great way regain my strength in a way that was relevant to my dancing. Additionally,  I was already working in the fitness industry as a personal training so the rest is history!

You look amazing, girl. Tell us all of your secrets.

Although I don’t adhere to a strict “diet” I am a big believer in moderation and portion control.  I also try to eat clean, whole foods and minimize anything processed.  A little known fact is that my husband is a pastry chef, so hence the moderation!

OK, we've chartered a plane for you. Where to?

Argentina! My husband is from there, so we go as much as possible.  The wine, the food and the dolce de leche are the absolute best!

One hard and fast rule you live by.

Do not settle. Ever! We all deserve to have the life we want and most importantly to be happy!

What’s on your “get amped” playlist?

Last Nite by The Strokes, Even Flow by Pearl Jam, Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani, She Wants To Move by N.E.R.D.

That song on your iPod you don’t want anyone to know you have.

I’m not going to lie, I love George Michael! I could listen to Faith all day long.

You’re splurging...what’s your weakness?

Unfortunately, for me it’s jewelry.  I’m actually really interested in jewelry design, too. I love collecting pieces that hold some kind of meaning for me. Right now I’m totally lusting after a designer called Mociun. She make the most lovely custom, cluster rings that are perfect for a Mother’s Day present (hint, hint in case my husband sees this, lol).

Tell us a secret.

I am the only redhead in my entire family.  Everyone thinks I was named Amber because of my hair color and the truth is, I kind of was. Although no one else had red hair, my mother had a “feeling” I would be a ginger, and boy was she right!

One thing on your bucket list.

To drive again, I haven’t done it since 1998.  Also, to really learn Spanish.

High school: love or hate?

Loved it, but couldn’t wait to graduate so I could move to ANY big city and get the heck out of the small town I grew up in.

Celeb dinner party, who’s on the invite list?

Martha Graham, Gwen Stefani, Julianne Moore, Eddie Vedder, Johnny Depp, Tosh .0, Tina Fey, Anderson Cooper.  That should make for a pretty well-rounded, eclectic group!
